Do This One Thing to Lose Weight

Just about anyone who has tried losing weight knows the struggle is real. Unhealthy options are everywhere and busy work schedules can make it hard to find time for exercise.

Most often, people know that in order to lose weight, a few things need to happen-they need to work out and they need to watch what they eat.

While these two things seem simple, they are the ones that most of us get wrong!

Most of us think that signing up for a gym membership will pave the way for the pounds to melt off. After a few months of walking on the treadmill for 30 minutes, twice a week, they become frustrated that the weight isn’t magically disappearing.

Along with this, they pledge to eat better or less or both…but what does that really mean? When someone tells me that they are on a diet, the first thing that usually comes out of their mouth is that they are eating more salad. That’s great, but are you keeping track of how many calories you’re eating too? You see, while making better choices is a great start, its only the beginning.

We tend to fall into the trap of thinking that if its “healthy” then we can have as much as we want, right? Well, a calorie is a calorie and if you’re eating “healthy” but still eating too much, you’re not going to get the results you want and we all know where that leads…frustration which leads us to give up.

So how do you know how much to eat and of which nutrients (protein, carbs or fat)?

Enter the fitness app!

Most of these apps let you record food and exercise, as well as set a net calorie consumption target or range for the day based on your height, weight, age, gender, and overall level of activity.

So now that you have these figures, you have a daily goal, a target.

Ahhh, now were getting somewhere!

Once you start adding in the food you eat throughout the day, you begin to get a clear picture of your eating habits which can help us to see where we need to make some changes.

It will be a change at first but if you stick with it, over time, you will begin to see the numbers on the scale change, your clothes will fit more loosely and you will begin to feel better.

Now that you have this information, how do you know what app to choose?

Personally, I love My Fitness Pal. I have used it for a number of years and for someone who is not a “techy”, it ROCKS!

My Fitness Pal keeps track of daily calories as you input them and subtracts from your totals as you go through the day so that you know how much you have left, in order to stay on track. It includes a database of over 5 million foods lets you quickly enter and save meals and it connects to several other fitness apps and devices and allows you to import and track recipes found online.

Now is the time to get back on track and take control of what you’re eating. Make those healthier food choices finally work for you and lose the weight!
